About Us

The Women’s Legal Centre a leading legal assistance service in the ACT. We are a specialist community legal centre providing free legal advice and representation and wrap-around support to women who would otherwise have to engage in their legal matters alone.

The Centre’s Board is responsible for overseeing the management of the Centre and providing strategic direction.

What we are looking for

We are looking for Expressions of Interest from women who would like to join the Centre’s Board at the upcoming AGM in November. We expect to have one vacancy in a seven-woman Board.

The Centre’s primary practice areas are family law and domestic violence and the Centre is committed to providing legal services in a multidisciplinary way that seeks to intervene early in matters and resolve the quickly.

We are looking for women with significant experience in the practice of family law and strong networks in the Canberra legal community, or ability to develop these networks. We are looking specifically for women who are no longer practicing in the ACT and want to be part of shaping the ongoing evolution and growth of our practice to meet the need of women here in Canberra.

We also want to hear from women who have the skill, interest and availability to take on a leadership position on the Board in the coming 12 months.

About You

Reformed/retired/revolutionised family lawyers who are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, from CALD backgrounds and/or women with disability are particularly encouraged to put in an expression of interest.
